This page should be used as a guide to what should be brought on hikes and expeditions. Find the appropriate list from the selection below.

Day Hike Kit List

Clothing:
Sun hat
Thermal top / tee shirt
Long sleeved fleece / sweatshirt
Long trousers (not jeans)
Walking socks
Walking boots.

Personal equipment (to carry):
Rucksack with two straps (approx. 30litres)
Put everything inside bags to keep it waterproof.
Waterproof jacket
Waterproof trousers (if you have them)
Spare jumper
Spare socks
Water bottle (1 litre minimum)
Emergency food rations
High energy food to eat on the way
Torch that works (spare battery if not a wind up torch)
Small personal first aid kit

 

Group kit (to carry between the patrol):
Patrols Leaders will need to arrange for their Patrol to be carrying the following items:
A survival bag or sleeping bag
Whistle
Compass
Route plan
Map
Map case

Night Hike Kit List

Clothing:
Woolly hat
Thermal top / tee shirt
Long sleeved fleece / sweatshirt
Gloves
Long trousers (not jeans)
Long warm socks
Walking boots.

Personal equipment (to carry):
Rucksack with two straps (approx. 30litres)
Put everything inside bags to keep it waterproof.
Waterproof jacket
Waterproof trousers (if you have them)
Spare jumper
Spare socks
Hot drink in a flask
Emergency food rations
High energy food to eat on the way
Torch that works (spare battery if not a wind up torch)
Small personal first aid kit

Large Rucksack (approximately 55-65litre capacity)
Strong, large plastic bags (to line your rucksack)
Sleeping mat
Sleeping bag (in a waterproof bag)
Sleeping bag inner (optional)
Survival bag
Personal First Aid Kit
Watch
Whistle
Small quantity of money (optional)
Notebook & pen/pencil
Torch & spare battery
Emergency food rations
Water bottle (1 to 2 litres)
Knife, fork, spoon
Pocket Knife (small)
Plate/bowl
Mug
Box of matches (sealed in a dry container or bag)
Wash kit (small)
Towel (small)
Coat (it must be waterproof and windproof)
Spare underwear
Spare walking socks
Spare Tee shirts
Shirt (woollen, cotton or fleece)
