The Bonaly Camping Challenge is a three level award designed to encourage and allow Scouts to get full enjoyment from camping and to achieve a standard of camping that they can be proud of. The three standards progress from bronze to silver to gold. The award is designed for groups of up to six. It may also be appropriate to present different levels of the award to different members of the patrol.

Bronze Award
There is no set standard for scouts aiming to achieve the bronze award, which can be done as part of a routine troop camp if necessary, but in a patrol setting. The badge will be awrded at the discretion of the camp leader. There must be an element of camping skills involved within the camp and Scouts achieving the award will be expected to have demonstrated an understanding of Scout camping skills. This award can be done over one night.
Silver Award
This is the second stage of the challenge and groups should already have achieved the bronze award before aiming for the silver. Scouts must be camping as a patrol and will be expected to cook for themselves although they may be participating within a Troop or otherwise organised camp e.g. Flag Competition. It is expected that a good standard of camping skills will be shown and the camp will be inspected at least once over the weekend by an independant scouter where possible. The main evening meal must be cooked on an open fire. The camp must be for a minimum of two nights.
Gold Award
This is the top and final award in the Bonaly Camping Challenge. Scouts should have achieved both the bronze and silver award previously and will be expected to show a superior level of camping skills. The group should be camping independantly of other members of the troop and not participating in any other event at the time. They will be expected to plan hte camp themselves including catering and programme. The camp should be over a minimum of two nights and cooking should be done on wood fires. Groups will be formally inspected during their weekend camp by an independant Scouter.
